Million Hearts is a national initiative to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes within 5 years. It focuses on implementing a small set of evidence-based priorities and targets that can improve cardiovascular health for all. Shared Decision-Making Guides

In shared decision-making, healthcare providers and patients work together to make the best possible healthcare decisions. Developed by the National Forum’s Value & Access Collaboration, four guides are available for healthcare providers and patients to engage in shared decision-making using the SHARED approach. Topics include:

  • ASCVD prevention and treatment
  • Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH)
  • Statin treatment planning
  • Statin and other cholesterol-lowering therapy

Provides information and resources regarding the control and/or management of the risk factors related to heart disease and stroke including data for mortality rates, hospitalizations, and prevalence of risk factors for heart disease and stroke in Iowa. 

Nutrition Facts Label CME Program for Physicians

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in collaboration with the American Medical Association (AMA) has developed an education program to help physicians and other healthcare professionals understand the Nutrition Facts label and counsel adult patients about using the label to make informed food choices that support healthy dietary practices and can help reduce the risk of developing some health conditions.
